Literally a ground breaking project where Macdonald Estates have entered into a joint venture agreement with East Renfrewshire Council to produce a technical solution for the longstanding problem of abandoned mine workings collapsing in an urban setting in Giffnock. To resolve the problem we will drain 800,000 cubic metres of perched water from the flooded mine, excavate down 45m to the base of the 15m high workings and employ reverse mining techniques to stabilise the failing rock. In completing the project in excess of 2 million cubic metres of rock and clay will be moved, 30 acres will be landscaped, new sports facilities will be provided for Giffnock North and East Renfrewshire Council and 25 acres of dangerous ground made good. To cross fund the remediation works Macdonald Estates will promote a residential release in line with the East Renfrewshire Council Local Plan along with three other planning applications supported by a strategic Environmental Impact Assessment.
