4th March 2009 MACDONALD ESTATES ANNOUNCE £280m DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Strategic land and retail property developers, Macdonald Estates, have announced plans to submit 12 major planning applications in 2009 with a combined development value estimated at £280m. The plans include the development of strategic land sites, the regeneration of town centres and the creation of edge of town retail developments, all of which reflect the core skills of one of Scotland’s most successful commercial property companies.
Dan Macdonald, Chief Executive, Macdonald Estates, commented;
“This year, our primary focus is planning applications taking at least 12 developments through to maturity by 2010 to 2012. We will invest significant sums in this process in the knowledge that demand for certain retail in key areas remains consistent.
“Our intention is to make a sustainable and creative contribution to our built environment. We will push Macdonald Estates forward as trailblazers in leading edge design and exemplary architectural standards.
“We will invest in sustainability, helping to create positive attitudes to renewable energy and carbon free emissions. Fundamental to our plans for the development of strategic land is the need to address the design and planning of urban settlements to create proper mixed development around good 'places' in which to live and work - that we can be proud of in the future."
Macdonald Estates has avoided market troubles thanks to a three year strategy which predicted the peak of the market in 2007 and led to the complete sale of its investment portfolio, raising cash which the company now plans to invest.
